Analysis of the Competitiveness of Coal to Gas (Summary)

Coal gasification manufacturing is intensive in energy and water consumption as well as in its carbon dioxide emissions, rendering itself fairly controversial in China. Furthermore, coal gasification is uncertain in a host of aspects including: required investment, technologies, associated environmental costs as well as its dependence on future market conditions. This study provided a glance on the failures of the coal gasification project in the Great Plains in the United States, which became bankrupt a year after entry into commercial operations, and for which the U.S. government and taxpayers sustained financial losses in the project.
