China 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020) Coal Consumption Cap Plan And Research Report (Executive Summary)

2016-01

The report is a collaborative effort among over 20 leading Chinese research institutions and industry associations. It proposes that China needs to cap its total coal consumption at 2.51 billion tons of standard coal (3.5 billion tons of physical coal) by 2020, and cap total energy consumption below 4.58 billion tons of standard coal equivalent, effectively reducing coal's share in primary energy consumption to 54.8%. Furthermore, China should aim to increase the share of natural gas in primary energy consumption to over 10%, and that of non-fossil fuels to 15.7%.
