Chinese New Type Urbanization – Challenges, Strategies, and Case Studies

This report was written by Environmental Defense Fund, Energy Foundation China, Institute for Sustainable Communities, Natural Resources Defense Council, and World Resources Institute. Drawing on the organizations’ deep first-hand experience promoting sustainable urbanization across China, the report examines issues in China’s land use, transportation, and energy consumption. Based on this analysis of local practices, we propose solutions and development principles to guide China towards a more human-centric, low-carbon, and green urbanization approach. This report addresses local level Chinese policy makers and aims to provide detailed analyses and recommendations that tackle key issues of China’s urbanization.
