Renewable Energy Integration in the Jing-Jin-Ji region

2016-07

Participants in the seventh roundtable discussed solutions to address the high renewable energy curtailment rate in the Jing-Jin-Ji region, referring to successful experiences in Germany and the U.S. state of Texas. Solutions that was covered include: introduction of a regional spot market where renewable energies would be prioritized in dispatch given their competitive price bids supported by the low marginal cost of generation; integration of transmission grid planning in the three jurisdictions to adequately account for the grid integration needs of wind and solar energies within the region; and the setting of a curtailment reduction goal in the region within a certain timeline in order to better coordinate and accelerate pertinent policy, market and technological actions.
