NRDC signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Wuhan Energy Conservation and Supervision Centre on June 7, 2016, demonstrating a shared commitment to the low-carbon development of Wuhan. The MOU focuses on the regulation and control of coal consumption, which is essential for a sustainable future. Beyond Wuhan, NRDC is also working with local partners in Shijiazhuang and Xi'an, as well as three provinces: Shandong, Shaanxi, and Inner Mongolia, to develop strategies for their carbon reduction. The research will identify limits for the use of coal with regards to clean air, water, climate and public health, and experts will design pathways for improved energy efficiency, transitions to natural gas and renewables, and less energy-intensive economies.
