2015-12-01

NRDC and various NGOs that advocate for low carbon urbanization in China jointly released the "Ten Key Principles of Low Carbon Urbanization" at COP21 in Paris. Drafted by NRDC in collaboration with other members of the China Urban Sustainability Coalition (CUSC), the report offers recommendations for China's transition to green and low carbon cities. It details ten principles for low carbon urban development within three main dimensions: urban form, resource efficiency, and urban governance, providing a valuable guide for local governments to formulate specific policies toward early carbon peaking. The report was endorsed and jointly recommended by more than a dozen international and Chinese organizations, such as the U.S.-China Energy Cooperation Program (ECP), the International City/County Management Association (ICMA), UNDP China, and the China Association for NGO Cooperation (CANGO). The report's release was covered by important Chinese news outlets, including leading financial magazine Caixin (财新), leading online news outlet The Paper (澎湃), and China Central Television.
