Shanghai Demand Response City Pilot Increases Momentum

2015-01-01

In 2014, NRDC worked with Shanghai to launch the first “Demand Response” City Pilot, which successfully proved that demand response has potential to improve the power grid efficiency in China. Among the 64 customers who signed up to participate in the DR pilot, 27 commercial and public buildings and 7 industrial customers actually “responded” to the DR events in the summer 2014, reducing peak demand by 10% on average. Shanghai is continuing these efforts this year, and planning to launch a more systematic model of DR, with innovative market-based approaches. As one of the Shanghai DR implementation team members, NRDC will provide full support by providing an analysis of Shanghai DR economics, training workshops, and policy recommendations.
