Demand Response International Workshop Held in Shanghai

2016-03-15

On March 15, 2016, NRDC held the international workshop "Demand Response as Grid Resources to Bid into Market" in Shanghai. Shanghai successfully implemented China's first demand response (DR) pilot program in 2014. With support from the China Prosperity Fund, NRDC has been working with Shanghai stakeholders to develop more diversified demand side resources and explore DR's role in increasing grid flexibility and efficiency. To help Shanghai develop a sustainable DR market mechanism, we invited experts from the U.S. and U.K. to share their insights on the demand response market in the U.S., DR development in E.U. countries, and successful laws to support DR. Over 70 participants from the Shanghai local government, companies and research institutes, as well as Jiangsu and Hebei attended, and actively engaged in the discussion with the experts on DR's market potential in China. Local aggregators also shared their experiences and lessons learned from the past two years. NRDC will continue to replicate Shanghai's success in other Chinese cities.
