Supporting China's First International Workshop on Multi-Species Marine Fisheries Management

2018-04-26

As the majority of China’s fisheries are multi-species in nature, NRDC supported the Fisheries Society of China and Fisheries Research Institute of Fujian Province to hold an International Workshop on Total Allowable Catch (TAC) Systems for Multi-Species Marine Fisheries Management in Xiamen on April 26. Fishery experts from the U.S., European Union, Australia, and China shared experience and case studies on the management of multi-species fisheries. The workshop included a session for experts to give recommendations for Fujian's TAC pilot, one of the five national pilots that NRDC has been supporting. Over 80 senior Chinese fishery managers and experts from Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA), representing 11 coastal provinces attended this workshop, including the Deputy Director of the Fishery Bureau, MARA. Both Zhejiang and Fujian delegates expressed deep appreciation to NRDC for our support for their pilots.
