Supporting China’s National Park Development

2018-08-16

The International Symposium on national parks was held during August 13-16 in Kunming, Yunnan Province. It was the first international symposium since the institutional reform and inauguration of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration (NFGA) and the National Park Administration of China. The meeting gathered over 200 representatives from government agencies, research institutes and NGOs. As one of the co-organizers, NRDC supported the meeting by inviting experts with extensive expertise in U.S., EU, and Africa to introduce best practices and experiences and contributed to the development of symposium presentations for the NFGA officials’ study and reference. NRDC has been actively supporting the development of the Northeast Tiger and Leopard National Park, the flagship project of the national park system. On International Tiger Day in July, NRDC collaborated with the Northeast Tiger and Leopard National Park Administration to run a publicity campaign on Weibo. Exclusive videos of the tigers, shot by infrared camera for research purposes, were shared on Weibo and reached over 55 million views in just three days.
