Greening the Global Supply Chain through Big Data

2018-10-25

The fifth annual Corporate Information Transparency Index (CITI) report, which ranks multinational brands on their supply chain environmental management performance in China, was released on October 25, 2018. The 2018 CITI evaluation covers 306 brands across 16 industries, up from the 267 brands examined in 2017. Two significant developments this year are the Brand Map — a digital, interactive map through which the location and real-time environmental performance of the top 10 brands’ supplier factories can now be searched — and the Blue Eco-Chain tool, which notifies participating brands when compliance problems surface with their suppliers registered in the program. Developed by the Institute of Public & Environmental Affairs (IPE) and NRDC, the CITI is the first quantitative system using publicly available data for evaluating the environmental management performance of brands’ supply chains in China.
