2019-08-28

On August 26-28, NRDC was invited to share and present at the 2019 Symposium on Chemical Environmental Risk Prevention and Control in Shenyang with the theme of Chemical Risk Management - From Science to Decision-Making. The event was organized by the China Solid Waste and Chemicals Management Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment. The meeting aimed to actively implement the requirements of China's National Program for Sustainable Development by 2030, to strengthen the capacity-building of domestic chemical management, to establish and improve the regulations and technical system of chemical environmental management, and to realize the prevention and control of environmental risks in the whole life cycle of chemicals. Nearly 300 Chinese and foreign experts, scholars and representatives attended the meeting. At the meeting, Dr. Kristi Pullen Fedinick, Director of Science and Data of NRDC, gave a presentation on "21st Century Data Streams and Prioritization-Based Decision Making”. Fedinick presented specific cases to introduce the use of Toxicity Forecaster (ToxCast), Chemical and Products Database (CPDat), and quantitative structure activity relationship (qSAR) data, to demonstrate potential opportunities and obstacles for new testing methodologies to aide in chemical evaluations and prioritization. Kristi's detailed and informative presentation immediately received wide acclaim among participants and invitations for further exchange and cooperation.
