As part of our efforts to cut emissions and improve energy efficiency in large existing buildings in China, NRDC partnered with the China Academy of Building Research and completed the draft guideline on energy performance benchmarking for existing large buildings for comments on January 3rd. For the first time in China, the guideline will offer practical guidance and easy-to-follow procedures for cities interested in further regulating their energy consumption in large buildings through benchmarking - the first step toward energy saving and emission reduction. NRDC has been promoting an energy performance benchmarking pilot in Changning district of Shanghai since 2018. With the final release of this standard, likely in the second quarter of 2020, more Chinese cities are expected to scale up their benchmarking programs.
