2021-06-22

On June 22, NRDC supported the National Center for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation (NCSC) in holding a workshop on international experience with climate laws. In addition to officials from the Department of Climate Change of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE), attendees included senior legal and carbon sink experts from top universities and research institutions such as the China University of Political Science and Law and the Chinese Academy of Forestry. The participants discussed how to shape and  direct climate legislation to achieve carbon peaking by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060. The NCSC team introduceded research on  international experience on carbon budget, carbon sink, and climate adaptation systems. At the meeting, NRDC and NCSC launched the project on legal responses to climate change under the 30∙60 goals. The project endeavors to address many of the current gaps in climate legislation, like determining the legal status of goals, mechanisms to achieve them  and coordination with other existing environment and energy laws.
