The Belt and Road Initiative Green Project Conference @NRDC

On October 21, Jieqing Zhang, NRDC’s China Country Director, was invited by the BRI Center of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) to speak at its Annual Conference on Green Projects for the Belt and Road Initiative. Over 100 policymakers and experts attended the conference, including officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and NDRC, ambassadors from BRI Countries, representatives of international organizations and think tanks, as well as executives from state-owned enterprises. At the Green Investment Session, Jieqing moderated the discussion on best practices of investment in select BRI projects, and lessons learned from such projects in promoting sustainable development. She emphasized that most of the BRI countries are developing countries that are in the process of industrialization and urbanization, and that if their development models continue to rely on fossil energy, it will present great challenges to the global effort against climate change. China and other BRI countries should strengthen cooperation and increase green investment to support the green development of the BRI.
