NRDC China Director Zhang Jieqing speaking at the forum @North Bund Forum Committee

Because of NRDC’s contribution to Shanghai’s efforts on low carbon shipping, NRDC China Director Zhang Jieqing was invited to attend the 2021 North Bund Forum on November 3 in Shanghai. The forum was hosted by the Shanghai Government and the Ministry of Transportation to promote green and low carbon development. Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a letter of congratulations to the forum, which emphasized that China will continue to promote low carbon and green shipping with other countries. NRDC was instrumental in supporting China as it became the first Asian country to establish Domestic Emission Control Areas (DECAs). In 2020, NRDC and its partners released China’s first report to review international strategies to further low/zero emission shipping and to introduce the international experiences of mobile source emissions assessments at ports. NRDC has worked closely with the Ministry of Transportation to introduce international best practices of green ports and shipping in China, and supported the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, California in launching the Clean Air Action Plan (CAAP) to curb carbon emissions in the  shipping and logistics industries (Blog).
