Backdrop of the 2nd Workshop of the Series

On August 25, NRDC organized the 2nd workshop of the Protected Area and Community Workshop Series with partners. The meeting focused on human and wildlife conflict mitigation to explore practical policies and tools to ensure the harmonious co-existence between wild animals and the communities in and around protected areas. This is crucial to the success of building China’s protected area system. A director from Wildlife Protection Department of NFGA participated in the meeting and encouraged the workshop to provide recommendations to support the policy development. Representatives from national park management administrations, research institutions and universities shared the best practices in China and discussed the challenges and solutions, such as compensation insurance and the science-based population control. An NRDC expert shared the research on human and jaguar conflict management in Latin America. After the meeting, the discussion contents and policy recommendations were summarized and submitted to the National Forestry and Grassland Administration for reference.
