China announced the establishment of the first batch of national parks a year ago and plans to announce more in the near future. NRDC is working towards ensuring that infrastructure construction in the national parks has a minimum impact to the environment. On October 25, NRDC and National Park Planning Research Institute of the National Forest and Grassland Administration (NPPRI) organized an online workshop with about 700 participants on green infrastructure construction in the national parks. NPPRI introduced the key concepts in the book, Green Infrastructure Construction in the National Parks, that was published earlier this year with NRDC’s support. NPPRI also presented the recommendations from their latest research on a green standard for green infrastructure construction. The experts and officials from the national park management bureaus, national park planning agency, Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Tsinghua University and Tongji University closed out the workshop with a discussion on the concepts, principles and best practices in select countries.
