Training: Supporting CITES Implementation and Enforcement

NRDC and NFGA Wildlife Protection and Monitoring Center jointly organized an online law enforcement training on CITES Implementation and Enforcement for frontline wildlife protection and enforcement officers in Inner-Mongolia Autonomous Region and Heilongjiang Province on October 27. The Deputy Director-General from the Wildlife Conservation Department of NFGA, the Division Director from the Chinese CITES Management Authority, and wildlife enforcement, identification and forensics experts from the Chinese CITES Science Authority, national wildlife forensic lab and Wildlife Crime Intelligence Analysis Center gave lectures on law and policies, enforcement and identification techniques and tools, and CITES implementation and enforcement requirements. More than 2,300 audience participated in the whole day workshop. The training focused on the specific challenges these wildlife officers are facing and the CITES implementation. CITES CoP19 will be held on November 14-25 in Panama. CITES is an important international instrument to fight the biodiversity crisis and to address the public health safety concerns.
