NbS in Support of Synergetic Governance to Tackle Climate and Biodiversity Dual Crisis

NRDC’s international climate policy expert gave a keynote speech at the event On Nov 17, as part of the China Pavilion at UNFCCC COP27, a side event on Nature-based Solutions (NbS) supporting synergetic governance of climate and biodiversity was held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. The event was hosted by China Green Carbon Foundation and Tsinghua University Institute of Climate Change and Sustainable Development and co-organized by NRDC, IUCN and other partners. Multiple stakeholders from government agencies, research institutes, the private sector, and NGOs were invited to the event, sharing research findings, best practice, and case studies regarding NbS contributing to the synergy between climate and biodiversity governance, discussing how the various sectors can effectively collaborate for a synergetic and global response to the climate-biodiversity dual crisis. 

NRDC’s international climate policy expert gave a talk at the event on “Mainstreaming NbS in China’s Climate Actions”, stressing the importance of NbS as a tool to address the dual crises, presenting the results of a study this year on this topic supported by NRDC, and highlighting China’s “ecological protection redline” as an excellent example of synergetic policy actions. In the panel discussion afterwards, participants from intergovernmental organizations and NGOs, including NRDC, shared China’s practice on promoting NbS for coordinated actions of climate change response and biodiversity protection and exchanged views on how NGOs can provide further support in this regard.
