The 2018-2019 Annual Pollution Information Transparency Index Assessment

2020-01

This is the tenth consecutive year since 2009 that the Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs (IPE) and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) have released PITI annual reports. PITI quantitatively evaluates whether the disclosure of five main types of information –environmental supervision information, self-monitoring, complaints and petitions, emissions data and environmental impact assessments (EIAs) – is comprehensive, timely, complete and user-friendly.  The consecutive evaluation over the past ten years indicate that China’s environmental regulation and information disclosure have achieved historic progress, building on the efforts in environmental law making and informationalization, as well as the shared attention from the government, public and the private sectors. The unprecedented advancement has subsequently contributed to elevating environmental quality and achieving sustainable development.
