Organizing Wildlife Protection Workshop

2014-02-01

NRDC hosted a workshop on February 18, 2014, in Beijing on the regulatory principles for wildlife protection. The workshop brought together over 40 key stakeholders of the ongoing wildlife law amendment, including senior experts from legal research institutes, conservation groups, and government representatives. The participants reviewed the existing wildlife conservation law in China and best practices from the E.U., U.S. and other parts of Asia. Andrew Wetzler, NRDC's Director of Land & Wildlife Program gave a presentation on the legal framework of U.S. wildlife conservation laws. Workshop participants also discussed recommendations for improving the wildlife law amendment, such as banning the trade of products made from endangered species, like ivory, which were subsequently provided to the government for consideration.
