Facilitates Fisheries Management Study Tour

2016-07-30

China is transforming its fisheries to tackle the country's overfishing problem and promote sustainable fisheries. To support this challenging transition, NRDC facilitated a study trip for a top Chinese fisheries expert on the current amendment of China's fishery law. In late July, 2016, our group visited U.S. federal and state fishery management agencies, universities, and international organizations to learn about the U.S. experience managing fisheries. The study tour focused on the design of Total Allowable Catch (TAC) systems, a fishery management regime specified by China fishery law. An international workshop organized by NRDC, China Society of Fisheries, and Shanghai Ocean University will be held in November to discuss TAC design and implementation, also a capacity building initiative for TAC pilot provinces.
